OBJECTIVES OF JESUIT EDUCATION
Jesuit Education is inspired by vision drawn from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ who has always been respected and admired by the people of India. It is also based on the principles of CHARACTER formation elaborated by Ignatius Loyala the founder of the Society of Jesus. This vision and these principles give Jesuit Educational Institutions a specific character and set before their staff, students and parents high ideals of humanism and service towards which they are invited continually to strive.
We believe in a Christian Social Ethics whereby justice is an absolute requirement of faith in God as our Father and the acceptance of each other as brothers and sisters in his sight.
Our objective is to promote the total development of the WHOLE PERSON so as to be fully human, fully Indian and truly modern. This means the student is open and committed both to the divine Spirit and fellow human beings. The student must show this by being actively concerned about rational development.
The Jesuit school aims at the integral and personal formation of the young. To accomplish this, special efforts are made:
- To help students to become mature, spiritually oriented men and women of character.
- To encourage them continually to strive after excellence in every field.
- To value and judiciously use their freedom.
- To be clear and firm on principles and courageous in action.
- To be unselfish in the service of their fellow human beings.
- To become agents of needed social change in the country.
The Jesuit school thus aims at making its own contribution towards a radical transformation of present day social justice, equality of opportunity, genuine freedom and respect for religious and moral values enshrined in the Constitution of India may prevail and the possibility of living a fully human existence may be open to all.
EXAMINATIONS
- There will Be Two Semesters in a year – first and second. There will be an examination at the end of each semester, Moreover, there will be two Internal assessments in every semester.
- Students must pass in the aggregate for each subject. For promotion to the next grade at St. Xavier’s a minimum of 40 per cent marks in each subject is a must. This applies to every student from grade one on.
- Absence from one or more subjects involves the loss of grades for those subjects and excludes the student from being reckoned in the order of merit in the examination.
- Pupils absent from an examination, for any reason, are not re-examined.
- Those absent from a test because of illness must produce a medical certificate.
- For sufficient reasons, such as unsatisfactory progress in studies, insufficient attendance, serious misconduct, etc. a pupil may be debarred from an examination.
- No boy/girl without a minimum of 90 per cent attendance will be allowed to appear for the final examination.
PROMOTIONS
- At the end of the year promotion to the next grade will be decided on the basis of the whole year’s work. Regular attendance and steady work, therefore, will be a condition for promotion
- Failure in two or more subjects renders a pupil liable to repeat his/ her class.
- Consistent neglect of a subject will not be condoned, be it a core subject or an additional elective subject.
- In view of the system of the year’s average in determining eligibility for promotion, it will not be possible to hold retests. Thus results declared at the end of the year are final and will not be reconsidered.
- A pupil who fails in several subjects throughout the year will have to leave the school. so, too, a pupil who fails a second time in the School.
- The answer sheets of the final Examination will not be shown either to students or to parents/guardians.
Criteria For Promotion To Class-XII
- Minimum 33% required in each subject in order to be promoted to class XII.
- If a student fails in any two or more subjects in class XI (after taking the average of both terminal examination) his/her result will be declared as FAILED.
Rules of Discipline
- Students should arrive at the school at least five minutes before the first bell is rung.
- At the sound of the first bell all should go to their respective assembly grounds. On Saturday when there is no assembly they should go to their classrooms directly. until the teacher arrives, the first monitor maintains order in the classroom.
- If the teacher does not reach the class within two minutes after the bell for a period to commence has rung. the second monitor should report it to the office ,while the first monitor should assume the responsibility for order and discipline in the class until the teacher/substitute arrives.
- This Diary should be brought to school each day.
- All the students should be habitually clean and neatly dressed. The school uniform is to be worn on all class days, examination days, and for all school functions in and outside the school. A boy/girl who is slovenly dressed may be sent home.
- No books (except for text books or school library books), magazines, papers or comics, and CDs may be brought to the school without the Principal’s permission.
- Exchange of articles or money transaction between students is not allowed.
- Any damage to any property must be made good.
- Cycle must be locked and kept in the place allotted. Only those with valid driving licence will be allowed to bring vehicles (mopeds, scooters and motorcycles) Four wheelers are not permitted.
- Running, playing or shouting inside the school building is not allowed.
- Every student is expected to keep up the high tone of the school by excelling in conduct, good manners, and cleanliness both in and out of the school.
- All the students are encouraged to come for evening games and swimming.
- For the preservation of their own health the children are requested not to patronize hawkers and street vendors,
- Student are forbidden to bring Mobiles/ Cameras, CDS, I-pods etc. to the school. Once confiscated, they will not be returned.
- They are also forbidden to bring transistors, crackers, explosives, and other dangerous materials to the school. Students are liable to be dismissed for such violation.
